Une nouvelle invitation au voyage dans cette exposition événement au Panier à Marseille. Picasso Voyages Imaginaires retrace les voyages fantasmés par le célèbre peintre et sculpteur au travers d'une riche collection d'objets et de peintures.
1 - EXPOSITION À LA VIEILLE CHARITÉ
L'exposition de la Vieille Charité à Marseille explore les sources méditerranéennes et africaines qui ont influencées les oeuvres d'un visionnaire constamment en quête d'ailleurs et de renouveau formel.
Des rives de la Méditerranée jusqu'aux confins de l'Afrique, l'oeuvre de Pablo Picasso est empreinte d'un désir d'évasion invitant au voyage. Les chemins qu'il emprunte s'apparentent à une initiation mythologique, décrite ainsi par l'artiste: "si on marquait sur une carte tous les itinéraires par où je suis passé et si on les reliait par un trait cela figurerait peut-être un minotaure ".
Cinq itinéraires sont proposés à la Vieille Charité. "Bohème bleue", "Afrique fantôme", "Amour antique", "Soleil noir" et "Orient rêvé", invitent à découvrir peintures, sculptures, assemblages, dessins et photographies de Pablo Picasso, mis en perspectives avec des oeuvres maîtresses des collections du Musée d'Arts Africains, Océaniens, Amérindiens - MAAOA
BOHÈME BLEUE
Sur les routes de la bohème, Picasso représente les saltimbanques, métaphore d'une jeunesse tantôt teintée de bleu (1901-1904) puis de rose (1904-1906).
AFRIQUE FANTÔME
La fascination de l'Afrique que lui inspire ses visites du musée du Trocadéro plonge Picasso dans une recherche intérieure menant à la réalisation des Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) et l'achat à Marseille en 1912 d'un fameux masque Grebo. Un dialogue s'immisce entre les oeuvres de l'artiste espagnol et les collections du musée d'Arts Africains, Océaniens, Amérindiens de Marseille.
AMOUR ANTIQUE
Après la Première Guerre mondiale l'antiquité retrouvée apparaît comme une nouvelle Renaissance. Dès son premier séjour à Rome en 1917 pour mettre au point les décors et costumes du ballet Parade avec la troupe des ballets Russes, l'antiquité irrigue l'oeuvre toute entière de Picasso, jusqu'à ses plus étonnantes transformations d'artiste " Minotaure ". Une confrontation inédite avec les collections du musée d'archéologie de Marseille illustre ce dialogue intemporel.
ORIENT RÊVÉ
Sur les pas de Ingres et de Delacroix, Picasso explore le goût orientaliste du XIXe siècle. La série des Femmes d'Alger d'après Delacroix (1955) transforme sa dernière épouse Jacqueline en odalisque, héroïne d'un harem imaginaire.
Véritable clou du parcours, l’ensemble sculpté Les Baigneurs est présenté au cœur de l’écrin majestueux
de la Chapelle de la Vieille Charité, créant un dialogue inédit entre cette mise en scène théâtrale de Picasso et l’architecture baroque de Pierre Puget.
L'exposition permanente du MAAOA est fortement recommandé également.
2 - EXPOSITION AU MUCEM
EXPOSITION PICASSO ET LES BALLETS RUSSES, ENTRE ITALIE ET ESPAGNE
Les liens privilégiés qu’entretient Picasso avec les arts et traditions populaires apparaissent de façon spectaculaire dans son travail de scénographe et de costumier pour la compagnie de Serge Diaghilev, les Ballets russes. Entre 1916 et 1921, Picasso réalise décors et costumes des ballets Parade (1917), Tricorne (1919), Pulcinella (1920), et Cuadro Flamenco (1921). Cette expérience expose le peintre au langage du corps et de la danse, lui inspirant de nouvelles possibilités formelles, qu’il mêle à des éléments empruntés au théâtre de marionnettes, à la commedia dell’arte, à l’art sacré ou encore au folklore espagnol. Confrontant œuvres de l’artiste et objets des collections du Mucem, l’exposition montre comment Picasso a su réinterpréter les traditions figuratives de son temps pour les placer au centre d’une nouvelle modernité.

A new journey invitation in this exhibition in Le Panier neighborhood in Marseille. Picasso Voyages Imaginaires redraws the journeys fantasized by the famous painter and the sculptor through a rich collection of objects and paintings.
1 - EXHIBIT AT VIEILLE CHARITÉ MUSEUM
The exhibition in La Vieille Charité - museum of Marseille - explores the Mediterranean and African sources which influenced the works of a visionary constantly in search of somewhere else and of formal revival.
From the banks of the Mediterranean Sea until the borders of Africa, the work of Pablo Picasso is printed by the wanderlust. The paths which he borrows are similar to a mythological initiation, described by the artist: " if we marked on a map all the routes by where I passed and if we connected them by a line it may represent a minotaur ".
Five routes are proposed in La Vieille Charité. " Blue Bohemia ", " Ghost Africa ", " Antique Love ", " Black Sun " and " Dreamed East ", suggest discovering paintings, sculptures, assemblies, drawings and photos of Pablo Picasso, and put in perspective with masterpieces of the collections of Museum of African Arts, Oceanians, Native Americans - MAAOA
BLUE BOHEMIA
On the roads of the Bohemia, Picasso represents the acrobats, the metaphor of a youth sometimes tinged with blue (1901-1904 ) then with pink (1904-1906).
GHOST AFRICA
The fascination of Africa that inspires him his visits of the Trocadéro museum plunge Picasso into an internal search leading to the realization of Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and the purchase in Marseille of a famous mask Grebo (1912). A dialogue interferes between the works of the Spanish artist and the collections of the Museum of of African Arts, Oceanians, Native Americans of Marseille.
ANTIQUE LOVE
After the World War I the found of antiques appears as the new Renaissance. From his first stay in Rome in 1917 to finalize decorations and suits of the ballet Parade with the troop of the Russian ballets, the antiques irrigate the whole work of Picasso, up to his artist's most surprising transformations "Minotaur". A new confrontation with the collections of the museum of archaeology of Marseille illustrates this timeless dialogue.
DREAMED EAST
On the steps of Ingres and Delacroix, Picasso explores the Orientalist taste of the XIXth century. The series of Les Femmes d'Alger according to Delacroix (1955) transforms his last wife Jacqueline into odalisc, heroin of an imaginary harem.
Real nail of the route, the sculptured set Les Baigneurs is presented at the heart of the majestic case of the Chapel of La Vieille Charité, creating an unpublished dialogue between this theatrical realization of Picasso and Pierre Puget's baroque architecture.
The permanent exhibition of the MAAOA is also strongly recommended.
2 - EXHIBIT AT THE MUCEM
EXHIBIT PICASSO AND THE RUSSIAN BALLETS, BETWEEN ITALY AND SPAIN
The privileged links which maintains Picasso with the arts and popular traditions appear in a spectacular way in his work of scenographer and wardrobe master for the company of Serge Diaghilev, the Russian Ballets. Between 1916 and 1921, Picasso realizes decorations(sets) and suits(costumes) of the ballets Parade ( 1917 ), Three-cornered hat ( 1919 ), Pulcinella ( 1920 ), and Cuadro Flamenco ( 1921 ). This experience(experiment) exposes(explains) the painter to the language of the body and the dance, inspiring him(her) new formal possibilities, that he mixes(involves) with elements borrowed from the puppet theater, from the commedia dell'arte, from the sacred art or still from the Spanish folklore. Confronting works of the artist and the objects of the collections of Mucem, the exhibition(exposure) shows how Picasso knew how to reinterpret the representational traditions of his(her,its) time(weather) to place them in the heart of a new modernity.
